That is a great pick. I’d put it more as a training montage than a “locked in” type scene (lol, not that there is big a difference). But maybe Van Damme’s final fight with Chong Li works??

Good list! My favorite is chariots of fire but since I lived in Philly in the early 80’s I have to say the Rocky scene and statue on the steps of the Art museum is a classic!
Fantastic list. I would add 'Edge of Tomorrow' as Tom Cruise learns to be a warrior and memorizes the sequence of events to survive, because 'Live. Die. Repeat.' seems like a perfect tagline for running as well.
Also 'The Cutting Edge'. Moira Kelly, D.B. Sweeney, and 'Ride on Time' soundtrack? As you said, the 90s hit different.
Wow! These are great adds. I thought about Edge of Tomorrow, but it got a little blurry to what extent Cruise is training and to what extent Cruise is progressing up the beachhead. But honestly, I think you could argue it deserves to be here.
In addition to The Cutting Edge, I also considered Miracle and I, Tonya in the winter sports category. Are those better than Cool Runnings? Debatable!
And the trap scene from Predator! Holy crow, I did not even think of that! Is it a training montage? Who knows, who cares; it’s awesome anyway.
Yes. This is the list we needed today. I'll add "Karate Kid" (but only the original). It's one of those that's cemented in my kid-mind as being hours long, then when I watch it as an adult it's five minutes. But, come on... Sand the floor. Paint the fence. Wax on, wax off. Form cues before form cues were cool.
I mean, you've nailed it. Karate Kid is the elephant in the room with this list. I went back and forth, back-and-forth including those scenes, or at least a part of them. It's an unforgettable movie moment. I've got another movie list I'm brainstorming for this year though, and I think another scene from Karate Kid will make it. I bet you can guess which one it is. ;)
