Happy Marathon Monday! Today is the 127th running of the Boston Marathon. It’s also the tenth anniversary of the finish-line bombing, the domestic terrorist attack that killed three people and injured hundreds.
Listening to the radio yesterday, I caught NPR’s All Things Considered, which had a short piece about a runner, Robert Wheeler, who was caught in the blast and has continually returned to the race.
“It just allows—the repetitive steps, repetitive motion, and at the same time exerting yourself—it allows you just to filter through and process things,” noted Wheeler. Well said. Movement, no matter the pace, gives us time and space to reflect on ourselves within the world.
