I was delighted to lace ’em up for my first race since November of 2019 at the Alameda 10-Miler. The pandemic-driven racing drought was the longest I've gone without racing since I began running over two decades ago.
While my time wasn’t particularly fast, I was pleased with the steady pacing I shared with Bolota Asmeron as we clipped along ten miles of tarmac on Alameda's southern shoreline. Our finish was on point with our pre-race plans—a pleasant start to the series of autumn races I’m hoping will help me claw back into shape.
Big kudos to Lena Zentgraf and her crew for organizing a very solid race amid the uncertainties of late-stage pandemic. The start line had the right amount of enthusiasm and sensible precautions for the current moment. Moreover, the air quality held up, the volunteers were great, and the racing was fine.
