Heard on the run
Hobbs Kessler ran 3:34.36 in the 1500m, one of the greatest track performances from an American high schooler. To put Kessler's race at the Portland Track Festival in context:
He smashed Alan Webb's previous record of 3:38.26, which Webb split in route to his high-school mile record. (LetsRun)
Kessler's time was quicker than existing NCAA record. (Runner's World)
He was also under the Olympic qualifying standard, making Kessler a contender for the Games this summer. (Michigan Live)
"This kid’s, probably at this age, the most talented kid I’ve ever worked with," said Ron Warhurst, who is coaching Kessler. That's saying something as Warhurst has also worked with Alan Webb and Nick Willis. (Detroit Free Press)
