Welcome back to Breakfast Club. Here's what I've been thinking about this week.
Running media's newsletter turn
In recent years, writers, journalists, and athletes have turned to newsletters to share their ideas and reporting. Rather than publishing in traditional online outlets—newspaper sports columns, Runner's World, Outside, etc.–runners are increasingly sharing content through direct email blasts to readers.
What's happening? It's a larger media trend. Caused partly by the erosion of traditional jobs in journalism, newsletters also reflect the larger digital ecosystem. We find content through personalized, curated platforms. And the email inbox complements those channels. (NY Times)
