Front of the Pack:
Two-time Olympic medallist Galen Rupp has a new coach for the 2020 Olympic build-up. He'll work with Northern Arizona coach Mike Smith to prepare for the Olympic Marathon Trials at the end of February. It's the latest fallout from Alberto Salazar's suspension last autumn. The upheaval and recent injuries put Rupp in the toughest position he's yet faced in the build-up to an Olympics. (Runner's World, OregonLive)
Last weekend's Hakone Ekiden in Japan was a barnburner with 15 course records falling. Ekiden—a Japanese portmanteau of "station" and "transmit"—are relay races without specific distances or number of legs. (Canada Running)
