Nike Shoe Woes:
After Eliud Kipchoge's Sub2 spectacle and Brigid Kosgei's new WR in the marathon, the IAAF has formed a working group to investigate Nike's ZoomX Vaporfly, the record-breaking shoe with a full-length carbon-fiber plate embedded in its foam. (HypeBeast)
As Amby Burfoot crisply summarized, the problem is one of vagueness in the rules. Shoes cannot convey an "unfair advantage" and must be "reasonably available to all." But at what point does an advantage become unfair? And in a market-based system, how do you determine the reasonableness of availability? (NY Times)
