One might recognize this maxim in the aftermath of the IAAF World Championships and the US Anti-Doping Agency's arbitration decision to give Nike über-coach Alberto Salazar a four-year ban.
When the track and field world champs began this week, the situation was already a farce. The event was held in the autocratic Persian Gulf kingdom of Qatar, a petro-monarchy that bought the championships for a $29 million bribe fee. Athletes competed in front of empty stands.
