Good afternoon!
I spent last weekend just west of Lassen Park, celebrating the life and soon-to-be-over bachelorhood of my friend and training partner, Brian Gillis. It was a wonderful time filled with beer, banter, and some epic jet skiing on Lake Shasta.
There was a cloud, however, both literal and figurative, over the weekend. West of us, the Carr Fire raged out of control in the parched wilderness above the city of Redding. On Friday evening, the firestorm raged into the town itself, a blistering manifestation of global warming that has destroyed (as of Monday evening) over 800 structures and several human lives.
Oddly, during northern California's last major fire, which ravaged Sonoma County a mere ten months ago, my wife and I fled the smoke plume in the Bay for a weekend in Redding.
